Project
The REBBI project initiated by Marc Fellous and Joseph Krief supported by AICJT, aims to rehabilitate the Borgel cemetery in Tunis
The observation
This project, started almost twenty years ago and which unfortunately had to be abandoned after two years of intense work, has just been revived at the initiative of Marc Fellous, Jo Krief, Bernard Allali and Pierre Mamou. It is now essential that it be brought to an end with the support of all by putting in place the appropriate means
The mission
We must clean, weed and cut the trees in order to restore the appearance of a maintained place and above all allow easier access to the tombs. This requires a team of at least ten full-time workers. This team will be under the supervision of a manager, all supervised by Jo Krief who already has experience
The vision
The survey and identification of all the graves were undertaken by Marc Fellous with the collaboration of Henda, guardian of the cemetery, Jo Krief and Bernard Allali for the shooting and maintenance, of a team from the 'AICJT and Habib Khasdagli rector of the University of Manouba assisted by a team of students
Action
Our action consists of several stages allowing the inventory and the restoration of burials
Cleaning
Removal of waste and regular maintenance of aisles.
Pruning
The uprooting of wild grasses and annoying trees gives them access to the tombs.
Photography
The shots and the inventory of burial and funerary monuments.
Renovation
The restoration of illegible or damaged burials.
Replacement
Complete restoration of burials or broken stelaes.
Fences
The maintenance, repair of fences and partition walls will be done later.

An important research work carried out by Roland, Marc and Esther Fellous has made it possible to produce a superb booklet « Les Rabbins du Cimetière du Borgel à Tunis ». They collected the legends about these rabbis, researched the highlights of their pastoral life, compiled the bibliographies of most of them, they photographed their tombstones, translated the written epitaphs into Hebrew and Judeo-Arabic. Work of memory, work of history for the Jews of Tunisia, but also work of history for Tunisia. As the authors write in their text, this work is in a way « le Panthéon des rabbins tunisiens », in 27 color pages.
* This work on the Borgel rabbis has benefited from the support of : Joseph Krief, Bernard Allali, Pierre Mamou, Guy Azria, Aldo Sitbon, Albert Maarek and Gérard Borgel.
